SLEIGH BELLS - CROWN ON THE GROUND

November 4, 2009

Sleigh Bells have taken the loudness war to a whole new level. The deafening volume and the lack of dynamics in this track is actually more like a special effect than an irritation.

The New York duo is kinda like an electro version of Times New Viking. Catchy pop-tunes hidden under layers of screaming noise and lo-fi esthetics. But where Times New Viking relies on well-tested formula of tape saturation, Sleigh Bells use a lot more digital-sounding distortion to sharpen the edges of their beautiful tunes. Sounds fresh, violent and interesting (as long as you don't put it on repeat for too long). And FUCKING LOUD!

And who wouldn't love a band with inverted crosses on their logo?
